The Historic Building "Schloss Kumberg"+
A jewel of architecture and history+

Schloss Kumberg, a magnificent historic building, is nestled in the picturesque landscape of Styria, Austria. With its impressive architecture and rich history, it attracts visitors from all over the world. The castle, whose origins date back to the 12th century, has undergone numerous changes and additions over the centuries, reflecting the respective stylistic epochs.

Architectural features

The architecture of Schloss Kumberg is characterized by a fascinating blend of different styles. Originally built as a medieval fortress, it was transformed into a Renaissance castle in the 16th century. Later Baroque elements were added, giving the castle its present imposing appearance. Particularly noteworthy are the ornate frescoes in the great hall, the magnificent stucco work in the salons, and the picturesque arcaded courtyard, which invites you to linger.

The history of the castle

The history of Schloss Kumberg is as varied as its architecture. Over the centuries, it has been owned by numerous noble families, each of whom left their mark on the castle. From the Lords of Kumberg, who built the original fortress, to the Counts of Herberstein, who transformed it into a Renaissance castle, to the princely family of Liechtenstein, who owned it for several centuries – each era brought new splendor and new stories to the castle.

The estate was leased by Carl Müller in 1924. In 1945, the owners were dispossessed and expelled by the communists.
