From the Middle Ages to the Present

The history of the Manor House of Groß Siemen is as rich and complex as the history of Mecklenburg itself. First mentioned in documents in 1320, the estate was originally a knight's seat, owned by various noble families over the centuries.

The manor house, as it stands today, was built in the mid-19th century in the neoclassical style. It served as the residence and administrative center for the respective landowners, who significantly shaped the development of the village and the surrounding area.

Architecture and Design

The manor house is a two-story brick building with a hipped roof. Its symmetrical facade is adorned with subtle neoclassical elements, including a central risalit and decorative window surrounds. Inside, the house once boasted spacious halls, elegant salons, and numerous private rooms, reflecting the lifestyle of the landed gentry.

Although much of the original interior has been lost over time, the impressive architecture still conveys a sense of its former splendor.

War, Expropriation, and New Beginnings

The estate was owned by the Schröder family in 1894. In 1945, the owners were expropriated and expelled by the communists.

During the GDR era, the manor house served various purposes, including a school, a doctor's office, and residential units. These changes, while ensuring the building's continued use, also led to significant alterations to its original structure and appearance.

The Post-Reunification Era

After German reunification in 1990, the manor house was initially empty for several years and fell into disrepair. In 2000, it was acquired by private investors who began extensive renovation work. The goal was to restore the manor house to its former glory and give it a new purpose.

A Cultural Meeting Place

Today, the Manor House of Groß Siemen shines in new splendor. After years of careful restoration, it has been transformed into a cultural meeting place. It houses a gallery, event rooms, and holiday apartments. Regular exhibitions, concerts, and readings attract visitors from near and far.

The manor house is not only a monument to a bygone era but also a vibrant center of culture and community in the region.

The Park

The manor house is surrounded by a spacious park, which was also redesigned as part of the restoration. With old trees, winding paths, and picturesque views, the park invites visitors to stroll and relax. It is a popular destination for locals and tourists alike and complements the cultural offerings of the manor house.
