Klein Königsförde Manor

The manor house, which until 1806 was a Meierhof of Groß Nordsee, is located directly on the Nordsee Canal and was operated as a restaurant with its own steamship pier at the beginning of the 20th century. Since summer 2010, there has been a small café there again.

From Meierhof to Manor House

The first documented mention of the Meierhof dates back to 1576. It was then part of the extensive possessions of the Groß Nordsee monastery. The Meierhof served primarily to supply the monastery with agricultural products.

In 1806, with the secularization of the monasteries, the Meierhof became private property. The new owner, the wealthy merchant Johann Schmidt, had the existing buildings extensively renovated and expanded. He transformed the Meierhof into a representative manor house, which from then on bore the name "Gut Nordsee".

The Heyday as a Gastronomy Business

At the beginning of the 20th century, Gut Nordsee experienced its heyday as a popular excursion destination. The then owner, Heinrich Müller, recognized the potential of the picturesque location directly on the newly built Nordsee Canal. He converted the manor house into a restaurant with a large garden and its own steamship pier.

Guests could arrive comfortably by steamship from Kiel or other towns along the canal and enjoy the idyllic atmosphere of Gut Nordsee. The restaurant was known for its excellent cuisine and the lively dance evenings that were regularly held there.

The Post-War Period and Decline

After the Second World War, Gut Nordsee faced difficult times. The steamship traffic on the canal declined, and with it the number of guests. The restaurant struggled to survive and eventually had to close in the 1970s.

For several decades, the manor house stood empty and fell into disrepair. Various attempts to revive the property failed.

In 2009, a new chapter began for Gut Nordsee. A young couple, Anna and Max Petersen, acquired the dilapidated property with the vision of bringing it back to life. With great dedication and a lot of personal effort, they renovated parts of the manor house and opened a small café in the summer of 2010.

The café quickly became a popular meeting place for locals and tourists. Guests appreciate the cozy atmosphere, the homemade cakes, and the wonderful view of the Nordsee Canal. The Petersens also regularly organize cultural events such as concerts and readings.

Gut Nordsee is once again a lively place with a rich history and a promising future.
