Jahnishausen Manor

Jahnishausen is located south of Riesa in the Jahna valley. The castle that exists here is in need of renovation but not lost. Around 1500, Johann von Schleinitz gave the place Watzschwitz the name Jahnishausen when he appeared as the owner of the manor. It had been in the family's possession since 1463. At that time, they also owned Seerhausen Castle, which no longer exists today, and Ragewitz Castle. During the Thirty Years' War, the Swedes destroyed the castle several times. Afterwards, the estate was owned by the von Kötteritz family. In 1824, Prince Johann of Saxony acquired the castle to be able to retreat to a quiet place for his studies. However, when he unexpectedly had to take over government affairs in 1854, he leased his beloved Jahnishausen. After 1945, Jahnishausen was converted into a state-owned farm. Until 1969, a school facility was housed in the castle. A fire on New Year's Eve 1970 destroyed the roof truss of the west wing. Since 2002, an association has been working on the renovation of the area. The gatehouse has already been restored. It is inhabited. Worth mentioning is the castle park, which invites extended walks.
