Hasselburg Manor

The Hasselburg Estate, now Kultur Gut Hasselburg, is located in the municipality of Altenkrempe near Neustadt in Holstein in Neustädter Bucht. The estate complex is considered exemplary for a complete 18th-century manor and was, before being taken over by the Stahlberg Foundation, in the hands of several well-known Holsteiner families, such as Buchwaldt, Dernath, Brockdorff, Thienen, and Plessen.

The estate is based on a fortified manor house from the late Middle Ages. The manor house was originally a double house typical for Holstein, surrounded by moats, which was largely replaced in the 18th century by a baroque renovation and new construction. The manor house is a two-story, nine-axis building with a hip roof and a gabled central risalit. With its festive hall and illusionistic ceiling paintings, it is considered an important testimony to interior design in Schleswig-Holstein. Flanking the manor house are two former cavalier houses, which together with the main building form an almost palatial courtyard of honor.

Opposite the ensemble of manor house and outbuildings is a large farmyard. The former barn, one of the largest, thatched, and well-preserved in the country, now serves as a venue for cultural events, especially large concerts. The Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, which is held annually at Gut Hasselburg, should be mentioned here.

The large gatehouse from 1763 was built according to designs by Georg Greggenhofer. It is one of the largest gatehouses in Schleswig-Holstein and served as a model for the gatehouse at Gut Testorf.

The estate is owned by the Stahlberg Foundation. The manor house is leased to radio play director Heikedine Körting-Beurmann and her husband Andreas Beurmann.
