Hasselburg Manor

Until 1820, the noble family Schenk von Flechtingen operated an estate in Hasselburg. Afterwards, they sold it to the Barons von Spiegel zum Diesenberg. In 1870, the latter built a manor house, which they did not inhabit themselves, as the Spiegels had long been canons in Halberstadt and also had their summer residence in nearby Seggerde. They only used the Hasselburg manor house for hunting, which is where the name "hunting lodge" comes from. Otherwise, it served as accommodation for the estate manager. Between 1854 and 1880, the Counts von Alvensleben were the lords of the manor, after which the property reverted to the Barons von Spiegel. After the death of Werner Friedrich Julius Stephan von Spiegel, his wife transferred the estate in 1890 to her brother-in-law Eduard von Davier, whose descendants were lords of the manor at Hasselburg until 1945. Especially under his son Karl von Davier, the estate developed into an exemplary modern agricultural enterprise around the turn of the century. In 1910, the estate district, which was still administratively independent at the time, had 64 inhabitants, while the municipal community of Hasselburg only had 44 inhabitants. By 1933, the population had increased to 199 after the incorporation of the estate district.

Towards the end of the Second World War, Hasselburg fell into the territory conquered by the US Army in early 1945, but was handed over to the Russian occupation zone on July 1, 1945. The Russian occupation authorities ordered a land reform in the same year, with which the last lord of the manor, Volrath von Davier, was forcibly dispossessed and the lands were distributed to new farmers. The manor house was taken over by the municipality and subsequently used as a library, nurse's station, sales outlet, restaurant, and residential building.
