Gnewitz Manor

The manor house of Gnevkow, a magnificent example of brick Gothic, stands on a small hill in the village of Gnevkow, surrounded by a picturesque landscape. Its striking architecture and rich history make it a significant cultural monument.

Architectural features

The building, constructed in the mid-14th century, impresses with its massive brick walls and the characteristic pointed arch windows. The stepped gable, richly decorated with blind arches and friezes, is particularly noteworthy. Inside, the cross vaults in the ground floor rooms and the well-preserved wall paintings in the former great hall are remarkable.

From knight's seat to manor house

Originally, the manor house of Gnevkow served as a knight's seat for the noble family von Gnevkow. Over the centuries, it changed hands several times and was owned by various aristocratic families, including the von Maltzahn and von Blücher families. Each owner left their mark on the building, which was repeatedly expanded and rebuilt.

Turbulent times

The 20th century brought significant changes for the manor house. In 1930, the manor house was owned by the Falkenhagen family. In 1945, the owners were forcibly dispossessed and expelled by the communists.

During the GDR era, the building served various purposes, including as a school and a residential building. After the reunification, the manor house stood empty for a long time and fell into disrepair.

Extensive restoration

In 2005, the manor house was acquired by a private investor who initiated extensive restoration measures. With great attention to detail, the building was restored to its original splendor. Today, the manor house of Gnevkow shines in new splendor and is a popular destination for tourists and history enthusiasts.

Cultural meeting place

Today, the manor house houses a museum that provides insights into the history of the building and the region. Regular exhibitions, concerts, and readings take place in the historic rooms. The manor house of Gnevkow has thus become a vibrant cultural meeting place that enriches the region.
