Boldevitz Manor

Boldevitz Manor House is a stately home in Boldevitz, a district of Parchtitz in the Vorpommern-Rügen district. With its distinctive double gable, the building is the last of its kind on Rügen and one of the island's architectural landmarks.

The Boldevitz estate had been owned by the von Rotermund family since the 13th century. The core of the manor house was built around 1600 under Claus von Rotermund, and District Administrator Philipp von Rotermund had it rebuilt in 1635 or 1655/58. Allegedly, stones from the church of the defunct village of Marschenholz, which was dissolved in 1550, were used for this purpose. When the family died out in the male line in 1712 with Caspar Detlef von Rotermund, the property passed to his son-in-law, the Swedish General Carl Gustav Graf Mellin. In 1744, the estate came into the possession of the von Putbus family.

In 1762, Privy Councillor Adolf Friedrich von Olthof acquired the estate, where he gathered a circle of relatives and friends and acted as a patron of the arts. He brought the then largely unknown landscape painter Jakob Philipp Hackert to Boldevitz, who created six large-scale landscape tapestries between 1762 and 1764. For the first time, motifs of the Rügen landscape were depicted. Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, who published a biography of Hackert in 1811, mentioned the estate under the name "Bolwitz". During this time, the two side wings were also added and the park was laid out. After bankruptcy proceedings were opened against Olthof in 1777, the estate was sold to the von der Lancken family in 1780. Further alterations were made in 1784.

This family owned it, from the 18th century under the name Lancken-Wackenitz, and from 1938 as Lancken-Wackenitz-Albedyll until the family's expropriation as part of the land reform in 1945. After the Second World War, refugees were housed in the house. Agriculture was continued as a state-owned farm, and the manor house served as an administrative seat and cultural center. Later, a kindergarten and 12 apartments were set up.

After reunification, the manor house was privatized. From 1993, the restoration of the estate ensemble began. All additions made after the 18th century were removed. The landscape tapestries, which had been moved to Granitz Hunting Lodge during the GDR era, were restored in Dresden.

Today, Boldevitz Estate is also used for tourism. Under the name "Gut Rodewitz", the manor house serves as a film set for a secondary location in the television series "Hallo Robbie!"
