Frogner Manor

Originally a two-story wooden house managed by tenants, engineer officer Hans Jacob von Scheel acquired the estate around 1750. He had the building transformed into a stately manor house by adding half-timbered walls with masonry infill in the Danish style. A western extension for a hall and an additional room in the attic created the desired Baroque symmetry. From 1790, Bernt Anker, one of Norway's wealthiest citizens, resided at the estate as a country retreat. He expanded the house with two large halls to the east and west, also constructed in half-timbered style. Anker aimed for a classicist appearance and had the half-timbering plastered or faced with masonry to give the impression of a solid stone house. Around 1910, the Municipality of Oslo took ownership of the property and carried out restoration work, during which the half-timbering was exposed and painted brown, contradicting Anker's original intention.

Frogner Manor is located in Oslo, the capital of Norway, in the Østlandet region, at an elevation of approximately 41 meters above sea level.

Today, Frogner Manor serves as a museum and is accessible to visitors who can explore the history and architecture of the estate there.
