Graevenitzsches Castle
The Graevenitz Castle was built in 1729-1730 by the Italian master builder Paolo Retti for Imperial Count Friedrich Wilhelm von Graevenitz.
It is built directly next to Heimsheim's landmark, the Schlegler Castle, on old castle ruins. After Graevenitz lost his Heimsheim fiefdom again in 1733, Duchess Maria Augusta took it over as her widow's residence.
Since 1812, the magnificent Baroque building has been owned by the city of Heimsheim. The ballroom is equipped with stucco marble walls and the ceiling painting "Hercules at the Crossroads" by Carlo Carlone.
Until 1974, the building served as a schoolhouse. In the years 1982-1983, the castle was fundamentally renovated and has since been used as the town hall, land registry office, and library.
