Gofischlössli

The Gofischlössli, a three-story hunting lodge with an attached stair tower, was built in 1644.

Commissioned by the wealthy merchant and politician Johann Rudolf Gofisch, the lodge served as a summer residence and base for hunting expeditions in the surrounding forests. Its construction reflects the late Renaissance style, characterized by sturdy stone walls, a steep hipped roof, and decorative elements such as corner quoins and window frames made of natural stone.

The attached stair tower, a typical feature of the era, provided access to the upper floors and added to the building's imposing appearance. Inside, the Gofischlössli boasted richly decorated rooms, including a grand hall, several living quarters, and a chapel.

Over the centuries, the Gofischlössli changed hands multiple times. After the Gofisch family, it was owned by various noble and patrician families who each left their mark on the building.

In the 18th century, the lodge underwent significant Baroque renovations, which included the addition of stucco ceilings and wall paintings. In the 19th century, it was briefly used as a guesthouse before falling into disrepair.

A comprehensive restoration in the mid-20th century saved the Gofischlössli from further decay and largely restored its original appearance. Today, it is privately owned and occasionally open to the public for special events.

The Gofischlössli is considered an important example of a 17th-century hunting lodge and a valuable cultural monument. Its well-preserved architecture and rich history make it a popular destination for history enthusiasts and tourists.

Although primarily a private residence, the Gofischlössli occasionally hosts cultural events, exhibitions, and concerts, allowing a wider audience to experience its unique atmosphere. It also serves as a picturesque backdrop for film productions and photo shoots.
