Glamis Castle is an imposing castle in Scotland, near the village of Glamis in Angus. It is known for its rich history and impressive ceiling paintings, which are among the most beautiful in the country.
History+
The history of Glamis Castle dates back a long way. King Malcolm II is said to have succumbed to his fatal injuries here in 1034 after a battle. Later, the castle became the childhood home of Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, the future Queen Mother, and was the birthplace of her daughter Princess Margaret. The castle is also mentioned in William Shakespeare's play Macbeth as the seat of the Thane of Glamis.
