Georgi Castle

The Georgischlössl (also Georgi Castle) is a Tudor-style castle in Ehrenhausen, Styria, Austria. The Georgischlössl in Ehrenhausen is situated on a small hill, at the beginning of the South Styrian Wine Road. It was built about 160 years ago under Count Attems in the English Tudor style from a small country house. Between 1870 and 1880, the estate belonged to the poet Stefan von Milow.
Then the castle alternately came into the possession of Italian, English, and Belgian nobles, until it was used as a home for wounded soldiers during World War II and fell to the English occupation forces after the war. In 1960, a noble "Buschenschank" (wine tavern) was opened in the castle.
At the end of the 1990s, the Buschenschank was closed and the estate was sold. From 2004, it was completely renovated. In addition to tours, the premises are also rented out for events and seminars.
In 2011, the gate system of the estate and the castle were placed under monument protection by the Federal Monuments Office.
Gate System of the Old Mur Bridge+
The gate system, which connects the Georgischlössl with its associated rider's tower, originates from the covered Mur Bridge, built in 1739 and completely removed in 1901. The portals of the Mur Bridge were dismantled at that time. The portal from the right bank of the Mur was faithfully rebuilt at the Georgischlössl, as was customary during the Historicism period. The coats of arms on the archway belong to the Leslie and Sternberg families.
