Yellow Castle (Wehrda)

Yellow Castle (Wehrda)

To be privately owned

The Yellow Castle is a large, villa-like estate in the center of the village of Wehrda in the market town of Haunetal in Hesse.

The building dates from the 17th century and is a horseshoe-shaped Baroque building with a mansard roof.

The owner of the villa is the von Campenhausen family. They operate forestry, and on the estate there is a seed company for grasses. This was also the origin of the experimental farm for grassland agriculture around Eichhof Castle, an outpost of the "Landesbetrieb Landwirtschaft Hessen (LLH)" (Hesse State Agricultural Enterprise) existing since 1965, named "Landwirtschaftszentrum Eichhof" (Eichhof Agricultural Center).

In Wehrda there is also Hohenwehrda Castle (Hermann Lietz School) and in the immediate vicinity the Red Castle.
