Geismarer Manor

The "Stone House" in Michelstadt, an impressive example of medieval architecture, stands as a silent witness to centuries of history. Its robust stone walls and characteristic half-timbered elements tell stories of noble families, changing ownership, and the eventful past of the Odenwald region.

The building is characterized by its massive stone ground floor, which gives it its name, and the two upper floors constructed in half-timbered style. The steep hipped roof and the ornate bay window on the south side are particularly striking. Inside, historical details such as carved wooden beams and original floorboards have been preserved, giving visitors a vivid impression of life in earlier times.

The house was built around 1600 by the Mosbach family. Later, ownership passed to the Lords of Lindenfels and from 1753 to the Barons of Geismar.

The Mosbach Family (around 1600)

The Mosbach family, a respected Michelstadt patrician family, were the first documented owners and builders of the Stone House. Under their direction, the house was erected around 1600, reflecting the architectural style and prosperity of the late Renaissance.

The Lords of Lindenfels

In the course of the 17th century, the Stone House came into the possession of the Lords of Lindenfels, a noble family with significant influence in the Odenwald. Their ownership marked a period of consolidation and further development of the property.

The Barons of Geismar (from 1753)

From 1753, the Barons of Geismar became the new owners. This change of ownership ushered in a new era for the Stone House, which remained in the possession of the Geismar family for a long time and was carefully maintained and preserved by them.

Today, the Stone House is privately owned and is used for residential purposes. It remains an important part of Michelstadt's historic townscape and a popular photo motif for visitors.
