Fuggerhaus Castle

The castle was built between 1537 and 1539 by Anton Fugger. In 1632, during the Thirty Years' War, the castle temporarily served as quarters for the Swedish King Gustav II Adolph and the "Winter King" Frederick V of the Palatinate. From 1773, the castle was the seat of the Bavarian city administrator, from 1803 a district court, from 1862 a local court, and since 1939 the district administration office.

The building is a four-winged complex with a rectangular courtyard. The main facade faces west and features a prominent central projection. The corners are accentuated by octagonal towers with pointed helmets. The windows are arranged symmetrically and are adorned with sandstone frames.

Interior Design

Inside, several rooms retain their original Renaissance stucco ceilings and wall paintings. Particularly noteworthy is the "Knights' Hall" on the first floor, which is decorated with elaborate frescoes depicting scenes from ancient mythology. The former chapel also features impressive Baroque altars and sculptures.

Over the centuries, the castle has undergone various modifications and renovations, but its historical character has largely been preserved. Today, it serves as an administrative building and is also open to the public for special events and guided tours.
