Fürstliches Landhaus Castle

The princely summer palace, known as the Landhaus, is located at the edge of the park not far from the old castle. It was built at the behest of Karl von Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen between 1828 and 1832. On July 15, 1837, Stephanie von Hohenzollern, who became Queen of Portugal in 1858 but died of diphtheria in 1859, was born here. From 1872, Prince Karl Anton zu Hohenzollern (1811–1885) used the castle complex as his summer residence. During the period when the Vichy regime was housed in Sigmaringen Castle (August 20, 1944 to April 22, 1945), the princely family was assigned the Landhaus in Krauchenwies. On February 6, 1965, Prince Friedrich von Hohenzollern died in the Landhaus. The building still serves as the residence of the Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen family; Princess Alexandra and her daughter Antonia Elisabeth inhabit the castle. The grounds, also privately owned, are fenced. The grounds and house are not publicly accessible.
