Princely castle

In 1596, Archduke Ferdinand acquired the burgher house and established his princely castle here for temporary stays. In 1609, the Archduke ceded the building to the city, which intended to use it as a town hall. However, extensive renovations lasted until 1629, and the first meeting could only be held on October 26 of that year. In 1792, after the great city fire, not much was left of the town hall. It was rebuilt from 1795-1798. In 1998, the town hall was renovated by architect Meinhard Neugebauer; the adjacent Hotel Bayer was demolished, and a new building was erected in its place, connecting to the old town hall. The old town hall courtyard was fitted with a glass roof.
