Amtskellerei

The building, whose origins date back to the early urban history, was for a long time owned by the lords of Volkach. It served the Prince-Bishops of Würzburg as a storage facility for agricultural products, especially wine from the surrounding vineyards. Around 1689, Hans Östreich operated a cooperage and a cookshop here. The current representative Baroque building was constructed around 1730. From 1743, the Meisner family, one of the wealthiest families in the town, owned the property. In 1885, the building became the Royal Bavarian Post Station. In 1911, the Dillingen Franciscan Sisters acquired the house and established a boarding school for girls. After the boarding school moved to an adjacent building, it housed various businesses before being sold by the nuns in 1999 and housing an antique shop since 2002.

The Prince-Bishop's Amtskellerei is located at Hauptstraße 5 in the Lower Franconian town of Volkach in Bavaria, Germany.

The two-story mansard-roofed house features a richly structured Baroque facade, framed by rusticated sandstone pilasters and divided by string courses. Original arched windows on the ground floor were enlarged into shop windows in the 20th century. On the upper floor, there are smaller rectangular windows with ogee architraves and diamond-studded keystones. The building has two large cellars and an 18th-century statue of a saint at the corner of Hauptstraße-Kellereigasse. Today, it serves as a residential and commercial building.
