Franziskanerkloster Berlin-Pankow

In the early 1920s, the Franciscans sought to establish a presence in Berlin. After initial difficulties in finding a suitable location, as an early proposal was too close to a parish church, the order acquired two residential buildings with a garden plot in Berlin-Pankow in June 1921. Shortly thereafter, an adjacent property was added. After the premises were set up, the first two Franciscans from the Silesian Province moved in during the autumn of 1921. The chapel, dedicated to Saint Francis of Assisi, was consecrated on October 4, 1925. Before World War II, this was the only convent of the Silesian Province west of the Oder and Neisse rivers. After the war, it remained the only surviving convent of the province, while the eastern monasteries formed a Polish order province. From Berlin, the Silesian Province took over additional monasteries of the Thuringian and Saxon Franciscan Provinces starting in 1945.

The monastery is situated in the Pankow district of the same name in Berlin, Germany.

Since 1991, the monastery has operated a soup kitchen. From 1992, it belonged to the Saxon Franciscan Province, which merged into the German Franciscan Province in 2010. Since 2005, the monastery has served as the German postulancy for men interested in joining the order.
