Franziskanerkloster Annaberg

The establishment of the Annaberg Monastery by the Franciscans is documented for the year 1655. It was consecrated under the patronage of Saint Anna. The monastery existed for over a hundred years before it was dissolved in 1810 as part of secularization. Originally, construction of a Franciscan monastery at this site began as early as 1502, but it only existed for a few years and was dissolved in 1539. The subsequent refoundation in the 17th century continued the monastic tradition.

The former Franciscan Monastery is situated in Annaberg-Buchholz, a town in the Erzgebirgskreis in the Free State of Saxony. The region is renowned for its rich mining history and picturesque landscape.

Today, only a few structural remnants of the former Franciscan Monastery Annaberg remain, which have been integrated into later constructions. The site is protected as a cultural monument in Germany and serves as a reminder of the order's former presence in the region.
