Fort X (Köln)

Fort X, Prince William of Prussia, Neusser Wall 33, built October 4, 1819–1825; Design: Oberbaudeputation in Berlin, executed by Jaschnik, Elsner and Buschius; incorporated into the inner rampart at the end of the 1880s; 1912: Apartments; 1914: Design for a green fort by Fritz Encke; 1919/20 Execution of the garden facilities with rose garden on the rampart; 1930 in the Reduit office of the municipal garden department, five or six tenants, one of whom was a gardener; 1939: SS comradeship house; after 1945: emergency shelters; 1972 (according to Rheinische Zeitung) used by four families, city musicians, rabbit breeders' association, scouts, Cologne city warehouse, green spaces office; 1978: eight tenants; today: associations, one tenant (caretaker); preserved today: core work, rampart with casemates, flank and face ditch with escarp and counter-escarp walls as well as mine galleries.
