Orsoy Fortness

The historic fortress surrounding Orsoy is a particularly strong reminder of ancient times. The Orsoy fortress was built according to two different fortification styles: New Italian (2nd ring of fortifications) and Old Dutch (3rd ring of fortifications).

Orsoy was largely surrounded by a medieval city wall and 4 city gates (1st ring of fortifications). The last of the remaining historic city gates was the Kuhtor and was destroyed during the hostilities of World War II. There were also various wall towers and 4 corner towers.

The 18 m high powder tower, which still exists today, was the only corner tower integrated into the wall. It illustrates the dimensions of the city's fortifications. Of the Blue Tower, only the foundation and remnants of the base wall have been preserved.
