History+
The origins of Krivus Fortress trace back to the 10th century. It was erected during a period when the Rhodopes played a significant role in Bulgarian history. Archaeological finds such as coins, Christian symbols, and weapons bear witness to the active use and military importance of the complex throughout the centuries.
Location+
Krivus Fortress is situated approximately two kilometers northwest of the village of Bashevo in the Ardino district, which belongs to the Kardzhali region in Bulgaria. It lies at an elevation of about 471 meters above sea level, surrounded by a distinctive bend of the Arda River.

Visitors can today explore the remains of the once mighty Krivus Fortress. Particularly well-preserved are the main entrance, parts of the towers, and the thick defensive walls, which in some places still stand up to five meters high. The walls of the inner fortress, the citadel, even reach a height of up to six meters. There was once a chapel in the center of the complex, of which only ruins are now visible. A deep tunnel, which extended to the river for water supply, is also still discernible.
