Evangelische Pfarrkirche (Münster, Butzbach)

In the Middle Ages, Münster was an important ecclesiastical center with its own parish and synodal court. A pastor was documented as early as 1341, and the community belonged to the Deanery of Friedberg within the Archdiocese of Mainz. Following the introduction of the Reformation, the congregation adopted the Protestant faith. Under the influence of Philipp III, the medieval church was demolished in 1630 to make way for a new, Protestant-influenced three-nave basilica, which was consecrated in May 1631. In the 19th century, structural decay and criticism of earlier alterations led to the construction of a new classical hall building between 1830 and 1832, based on plans by the Gießen regional master builder Hofmann.

The church is situated in Münster, a district of Butzbach in the Wetterau district of Central Hesse. It stands in the middle of an oval churchyard, which is enclosed by a dry-stone wall.

The current Evangelical Church in Münster is an active place of worship and, together with the Fauerbach congregation, forms the Münster parish. It is assigned to the Propstei Oberhessen of the Evangelical Church in Hesse and Nassau and serves as a central hub for community life.
