From Princely Residence to Hotel

The palace was built in 1893 as an official villa for the princely chamber president. From 1929 until their expropriation and expulsion by the communists in 1945, the palace served as the residence of the Princes of Stolberg-Wernigerode. From 1945 to 1990, it served as the seat of the SED district leadership of Wernigerode. From 1990 to 1996, the employment office was housed in the palace. In 1996, the Schmidt family bought the property and converted the palace into a hotel.
