The palace was built in 1750 by Friedrich Joachim Stengel for Prince Wilhelm Heinrich.
It represents one of the most significant examples of Baroque architecture in the region.
History of the Palace+
Construction and Early Years
The construction of the palace began in 1748 and was completed in 1750. Prince Wilhelm Heinrich commissioned the renowned architect Friedrich Joachim Stengel to design his new residence.
The palace served as the main residence of the princely family for several generations.
Changes and Renovations
Over the centuries, the palace underwent various changes and renovations. In the 19th century, some Baroque elements were replaced by Neoclassical styles, which were partially reversed in the 20th century.
Despite these changes, the original character of the building has been largely preserved.
Architecture and Design+
The palace impresses with its symmetrical facade and richly decorated interiors. The main building is flanked by two wings that enclose a spacious courtyard.
Inside, magnificent stucco work, frescoes, and valuable tapestries can be admired.
The Grand Hall
The Grand Hall, located on the first floor, is one of the most impressive rooms in the palace. It was used for receptions, balls, and other festive occasions.
The ceiling painting depicts scenes from Greek mythology.
The Palace Garden
The palace garden, designed in the French style, extends behind the building. It features geometrically arranged flowerbeds, fountains, and sculptures.
It offers a tranquil oasis and invites visitors to stroll and relax.
Current Use+
Today, the palace houses a museum that is open to the public. Visitors can explore the historic rooms and learn more about the history of the princely family and the region.
Regular exhibitions and cultural events also take place here.
