Hoftor

For centuries, the Steffnerhof served as an outpost and economic hub for the St. Stephan monastery in Würzburg. Its exact founding date has not been passed down, but the existence of a courtyard gate indicates a long and eventful history, in which the court played an important role in monastic supply and administration in the region. After secularization and the associated end of monastic use, the courtyard gate was preserved as the sole structure of the Steffnerhof and placed under monument protection.

The courtyard gate is located in the Bavarian spa town of Bad Kissingen, situated in the Lower Franconian part of the Free State of Bavaria. The town is renowned for its healing springs and picturesque setting in the Saale valley.

Today, the former courtyard gate is protected as an architectural monument in Bavaria and stands as a striking testament to regional history. It remains as a solitary structure, recalling the former scale and importance of the Steffnerhof, whose other buildings no longer exist. The gate is a silent witness to Bad Kissingen's monastic past.
