Egerer Castle
The Egerer Schlössl is located in the municipality of Weyer in the district of Steyr-Land in Upper Austria (Marktplatz 30).
The Egerer Schlössl was built in 1560 on the site of a defensive structure that was razed in the Turkish Wars in 1532. The builder of the fortress-like new building was Wolf Egerer, an "iron master". Lorenz Egerer, a brother of Wolf, lived in the small castle until the end of his life. The Egerers themselves are traceable in Weyer until the middle of the 17th century. Until 1848, the building served as the seat of the district court. After that, the owners changed frequently, e.g., it came into the hands of the Schweigels.
Egerer Schlössl today+
The Egerer Schlössl, which had become very dilapidated, was acquired in 1977 by the municipalities of Weyer and Gaflenz. In cooperation with the Federal Monuments Office and the Cultural Department of Upper Austria, the building was restored and provided with an extension. In 1981, a music school and a vocational school for economic professions for women were opened. The building is also used for exhibitions, e.g., by the painter Josef Gabriel Frey.
