Kloster Zoffingen

The convent's beginnings trace back to a community of Beguines who moved from Wil to Konstanz before the year 1257. After adopting the Rule of St. Augustine, the sisters received the cathedral scholastic of Zofingen's canonry. A chapel was built towards the end of the 13th century and consecrated to Saint Catherine around 1314. From 1318, the Dominicans of the neighboring island monastery took over the spiritual care of the community. In the late 15th century, reforms were introduced by sisters from St. Gallen, and Cordula von Schönau was tasked with creating the Zoffingen manuscripts. The community's contemplation was fostered by mystics such as Heinrich Seuse. In 1654, the convent received a miraculous image of Mary, which remains a significant treasure today. In 1782, a merger with the convent of St. Peter an der Fahr occurred, but this was dissolved just a few years later, in 1789.

The Zoffingen convent is located in the city of Konstanz in the state of Baden-Württemberg, Germany, directly on Lake Constance.

For a long time, the convent community maintained a girls' school, which ceased operations in 2018. The former school grounds were acquired by the Catholic parish of Konstanz and have served as a nursing home since autumn 2023, operated by Caritas elderly care. The convent community also owns a vineyard with a wine house on the outskirts of Konstanz as a retreat.
