The Teutonic Order Commandery Oettingen was founded between 1225 and 1236, making it one of the early settlements of the Teutonic Order in Bavaria. For centuries, the order shaped the life and development of the monastery. The commandery existed until its dissolution and secularization in 1805, when it came to an end during the upheavals of the Napoleonic era.
