Hotel

The Deuring-Schlößle is a historic castle in Bregenz, Vorarlberg, Austria. It shapes the silhouette of the upper town together with the Martinsturm and today serves as an upscale hotel.

History+

The origins of the estate date back to the late 14th or early 15th century, when a three-story manor house was built in the upper town. In 1539, it was owned by Hans von Wolfurt. After being damaged by the Swedes in 1647, Johann Albert von Deuring acquired the property in 1660. He had it significantly expanded until 1702, with the area between the manor house and the city wall being built upon. The gun tower of the city wall was raised, given an onion dome, and integrated into the structure. Additions were made in 1698 on the southeast side, and in 1702, the new construction of the “Torkel” in the east took place. The Deuring family, wealthy timber merchants, owned the Schlössle until 1801. Afterwards, it changed hands several times and temporarily served as a rent office chancellery. In 1915, the interior was redesigned in the Historicist style. Since 1989, the Deuring-Schlößle has been used as a hotel-restaurant.
