Citadel van 's-Hertogenbosch (Fortress)

The citadel of 's-Hertogenbosch is a term from 1637 to 1645 earlier bastioned fortress on the edge of the city of 's-Hertogenbosch in the Netherlands. The citadel was built to defend against Spanish attacks, but also against the Catholic population of the city. With the construction of the citadel in the form of a pentagon, which initially was called Fort Willem Maria, was begun shortly after the town was taken by the Dutch in 1629. In the late 18th Century, the citadel served as barracks, the buildings were expanded 1848th.
