Château Saint-Vincent (Gilly)

The castle was built in the 16th century and was owned by the Lièvre and the Dufflon d' Epesses, Baron Jean Steiger, Manfredo Balbani, citizens of Geneva, the Riedy, the Brigue. In 1604, Jean de Dony Saint-Vincent gave it to the Genevan Pyrame de Candolle for an annual pension of 500 Livres.

The Rolaz of Rolle owned the property from 1608 until the end of the 18th century. There were so many children in this family, moreover, that the property was often fragmented (including the cellars, attics, and presses) into halves, quarters, or even "third fruits on a third of the vine planting".

In 1820, the property was in the hands of Frédéric Jacques Louis Millier, captain of the Swiss Guard in France. He had repairs carried out on the castle before selling it in 1835 to Vincent Rumpff from Hamburg, an ambassador of the free cities of Germany in Paris. In 1838, Rumpff had the castle rebuilt. He had two trapezoidal towers erected, covered with slate (nostalgia for the landscapes of France or Germany?). He also had a magnificent planted park of two hectares created. Vincent Rumpff considerably enlarged his property.

Childless, Rumpff bequeathed the entire property to his niece Sarah Boreel (née Langdon), who sold it in 1872 for half a million francs to Edouard Vaucher. Vaucher was a Neuchâtel native from Mulhouse, "Minister of the Holy Gospel".

Finally, on March 1, 1934, the widow of Professor Edouard Vaucher, Mathilde Julie Louise Bersier, sold the property to Henri Rolaz, a winemaker of the castle. The price was only 180,000 francs. Rolaz never lived in the castle but rented it out. His son Charles inherited the castle in 1960. In 1968, the castle and its park were sold to Mr. Robert Genillard.
