Château La Bâtie (Vinzel)

The castle above Vinzel was built in 1722 by Nicolas Jenner from Bern. In 1757, Gottlieb Jenner, advisor to the city of Bern, sold the property for 50,000 francs to André-Jaques Baraban, legal advisor from Geneva. Towards the end of the 18th century, Frossard von Saugy acquired the castle, which he shortly after sold to Franz von Reding. He came from Schwyz and was a "nobleman-forester" who fully integrated into the village and whose inhabitants loved him. After his death on March 24, 1908, and the death of his wife, the castle of Bâtie was inherited by their daughter Marie-Louise. She was the wife of the famous Fribourg writer Gonzague von Reynold. Franz von Reding's granddaughter, Elisabeth von Reynold, married the historian Carl J. Burckhardt and lived in the castle until her death on October 6, 1989.
