The castle was built in 1788 for Edward Walckiers, with architect Auguste Payen overseeing its construction. In 1854, the estate changed hands and was acquired by Francis Haussy. A significant change occurred on October 29, 1867, when Leopold II purchased the castle for 500,000 gold francs, equivalent to approximately 1.75 million euros today.
