The Castle can be visited
Château de Vianden

The Château de Vianden is an impressive medieval castle complex that majestically rises in Vianden, Luxembourg. As one of the most powerful and best-preserved fortifications in the country, it captivates visitors with its rich history and imposing architecture.
History+
The origins of the complex date back to the late 5th century, when a Roman watch post existed on this site. However, the castle gained its greatest significance in the 11th century when the Lords of Vianden moved here from the Eifel region and undertook extensive expansions. The Counts of Vianden became the most influential rulers between the Rhine, Moselle, and Meuse until the 15th century. From 1417 until the French Revolution, the castle belonged to the House of Orange-Nassau. After its confiscation during the revolution, it was returned to Grand Duke William I of Luxembourg in 1815. In 1820, the then-mayor Wenzeslas Coster acquired the castle at an auction and sold valuable materials, leading to its decay. In 1890, the castle came into the possession of the elder House of Nassau under Grand Duke Adolf and remained there until its nationalization in 1977. Since then, it has been extensively restored.
