Château de la Sayette

The Château de la Sayette has belonged to the de La Sayette family since the 13th century. It is not possible to prove a connection to the de La Sayette family at an earlier date, as the family itself only has a proven direct lineage back to approximately 1380 (see The Lords of Sidon and Caesarea). Occupied by the English, besieged by the Huguenots, the castle, probably fortified in the 13th century, was sold as national property and then repurchased around 1793 by the daughter-in-law of the former owner, who had emigrated to Great Britain. His descendant would remodel the edifice by having the two common buildings that enclosed the courtyard demolished. In the 19th century, the work was entrusted to the architect Boyer, who erected the chapel in a neo-Gothic style (1856-1882).

The oldest part of the castle includes a 15th-century dwelling, flanked by two towers. A well, classical garden, sundials, gates, drinking trough-footbath, hornbeam alley, and vegetable garden enhance the ensemble. The dwelling, the chapel, the outbuildings, the drinking trough, the boundary walls, and the park were listed as historic monuments by decree on July 23, 2004.

Created during the Renaissance and established in the 17th century, the ensemble consists of four enclosed areas. It comprises a French garden with classical parterres and a bowling green (lawn parterre). It notably includes:
