Château de la Baume
The Château de la Baume is an imposing castle located in Prinsuéjols, a commune in southern France within the Lozère department. Perched at an altitude of approximately 1142 meters on the Aubrac high plateau, it is among France's highest-situated castles.
History+
The site was first documented in 1275, though only a fortified house stood there until the 1630s. The most significant expansions and alterations took place in the first half of the 17th century. In 1858, the castle became the private property of the Las Cases family. On January 21, 1963, the Château de la Baume was designated a Monument historique by the French Ministry of Culture, with its park later also included in the protected area.
