The Castle of Conthey+

The castle was located on the cape in the northeast of the village. Today, only a part of the main tower and parts of the curtain wall, which form an irregular rectangle, are visible. The complex lay on several successive terraces and consisted of the watchtower, a courtyard with a well, and finally, to the south, the Aula (or residence of the lord of the castle), the former residence of the Viztum of Conthey. The tower was built from 1257 to 1258 for Peter II of Savoy according to the plans of Pierre Meinier.
The castle was rebuilt several times in the 13th and 14th centuries. In 1475, after the Battle of La Planta, it was set on fire by the VII Dizains. The complex was never rebuilt.
