Château de Bourglinster

The first documented mention of Bourglinster Castle dates back to 1098, when it was owned by St. Symeon of Trier. At that time, the complex included a residential building, a chapel, and a protective wall. During the second half of the 14th century, the chapel was expanded, and a tower was added to the north side. The 15th century saw the construction of the lower castle with a moat and two defensive towers. Between 1542 and 1544, parts of both castle complexes were damaged in wartime conflicts but subsequently rebuilt. In 1548, a Renaissance wing enriched the architecture. Around 1680, French troops destroyed parts of the lower castle. A Baroque facade characterized its appearance in the early 18th century. In 1968, the Luxembourgish state acquired the castle. After extensive restoration work, it was reopened in 1982 for cultural events such as exhibitions and concerts, as well as for conferences and receptions.

Bourglinster Castle is located in the eponymous village of Bourglinster in the Grevenmacher district, in the Grevenmacher region of Luxembourg. It stands at an elevation of approximately 355 meters above sea level.

Today, the Château de Bourglinster houses a restaurant and continues to serve as a venue for exhibitions, concerts, conferences, and receptions.
