Château d'Useldange

The origins of Useldange Castle date back to the early 12th century, when it was built around 1100 as part of the emergence of the Lordship of Useldange. After the extinction of the original Lords of Useldange in 1415, ownership passed to Jean de Rodemacher through marriage. In 1479, Emperor Maximilian I confiscated the estate and entrusted it to Margrave Christoph I of Baden. During the Burgundian Wars, the castle and its chapel suffered significant damage. In 1674, Wilhelm von Nassau-Vianden inherited the castle but soon sold it to Franz-Sebastian Bauer from Everlingen. The complex continued to decay, and in 1903, the castle chapel was completely demolished. A turning point came in 1924 when Francis Kuhn-Wolff, an emigrant from Useldange to the USA, acquired the ruin. After extensive stabilization work on the walls and the keep, her family erected a modern villa on the site in 1934, which now serves as the town hall.

The castle ruin Château d'Useldange is located in Useldange, in the district of Redingen, in the Diekirch region of Luxembourg. It lies at an elevation of approximately 248 meters above sea level.

Visitors can today explore the ruins of Château d'Useldange and discover the remains of this historic complex. The modern villa on the castle grounds now serves as the municipal town hall.
