Château d'Ozenay

The origins of the estate date back to the Middle Ages, when large parts of the land were owned by the Abbey of Tournus and the chapters of Saint-Vincent and Saint-Pierre de Mâcon. These entities granted their possessions as fiefs to secular lords. In 1267, the fief passed to the Chanay family, followed by the Montbellet in 1282 and the Chacipol in 1343. In the 16th century, it returned to the possession of the Chanay. Claude Barthelot, co-lord of Ozenay and Gratay, acquired the castle in 1587. The Barthelot family held the title of Marquis d'Ozenay until the end of the 19th century. In 1860, the last family representative bequeathed the estate to his grandnephew Amédée de La Barge de Certeau, whom he adopted and to whom he transferred his title. The lineage continued in 1891 with Philibert de La Barge de Certeau d'Ozenay and in 1939 with his son. In 1971, the slate roofs of the castle were restored.

The Château d'Ozenay is situated in Ozenay, a commune in the Saône-et-Loire department in the Bourgogne (Burgundy) region of France, at an elevation of approximately 226 m above sea level.

Today, the Château d'Ozenay is privately owned and not accessible to the public. However, visitors can appreciate the external splendor of the well-preserved structure and the historical ambiance of the surroundings.
