Château d'Aynac

According to oral tradition, the Château d'Aynac was a modest fortress in the Middle Ages, serving as a refuge for robbers. A decisive turning point in the family's history occurred in 1495 when Annet de Turenne d’Aynac, an illegitimate great-grandson of Raimond de Turenne, married the sister of Galiot de Genouillac, solidifying his family's nobility. In the early 16th century, his wife Jacquette had the current castle built. Over the 16th and 17th centuries, the castle was redesigned in Renaissance style by the lords of Aynac, with moats and drawbridges removed, and the towers topped with domes. The interiors received lavish furnishings. In the 18th century, the estate was neglected and plundered during the Revolution, with its archives also destroyed. In 1875, Elizabeth de Wagram, married to Étienne-Guy de Turenne d’Aynac, began extensive restorations. The last resident from the Turenne d’Aynac family, Louise, sold the castle in 1937. After various owners, the municipality acquired the property in 1973, using it, among other things, as a town hall and holiday colony. In 2008, due to high renovation costs, it was sold again and since 2015 has been owned by racing driver Laurent Battut, who organizes vintage car events there.

The Château d'Aynac is located in the commune of Aynac in the Lot department, which belongs to the Midi-Pyrénées region of France. It is situated at an elevation of approximately 346 meters above sea level.

Today, the Château d'Aynac is privately owned. It is a vibrant place that annually hosts the Rallye Castine and the Aynac Motor Festival, a celebration for vintage car enthusiasts.
