Castillo de Santueri
The Castell de Santueri is the ruin of a rock castle on the 408 m high plateau mountain Puig de Santueri in the eastern mountains, the Serres de Llevant in the municipality of Felanitx on Mallorca/Spain. It is located about seven kilometers southeast of Felanitx.
In the 14th century, the Spanish crown built a new fortress on the remains of a previous hilltop castle, which served, among other things, to protect against pirate raids. The fortress fell into disrepair from the 18th century onwards. Numerous extensive parts of the castle, built of white limestone, such as curtain walls and towers, have been preserved.
Predecessor Buildings+
Already in Roman times (after 123 BC), a fortress was built on the ridge. After the conquest of Mallorca by the Emirate of Córdoba (902 AD), the mountain peak was also secured with a fortress. The garrison of the fortress resisted for a year during the conquest of Mallorca (Reconquista) from 1229 by James I of Aragon, before it fell and was almost completely razed.

The ruin is accessible via a road that branches off the Ma-14 in the direction of Santanyi. Due to its exposed location, the site offers good long-distance views. Due to restoration work, the area was not accessible from 2011 to 2014.
Other similar rock castles on Mallorca of the same type are the Castell d’Alaró in the northwest and the Castell del Rei in the north.
