Castello di Neumelans, an impressive 16th-century castle, rises on the southwestern edge of Sand in Taufers in northeastern South Tyrol. It is considered one of the most beautiful estates in the region and captivates with its castle-like architecture.
History+
The construction of Castello di Neumelans took place in 1582 and 1583, completed within just twelve months. It was built by Hans Fieger from Melans, who at that time served as a bailiff at the nearby Taufers Castle. The name of the estate derives from Ansitz Melans in the Inn Valley, which was also built by the Fieger family. After the Fiegners, the castle changed hands several times: from 1708 it belonged to the Zeiller v. Zeillheim, and from 1815 to the von Ottenthal family, who restored it in 1864. Since 1956, Castello di Neumelans has been owned by the Schober family through inheritance.
