Waldenfels Castle

Waldenfels Castle is today the ruin of a spur castle on a 205 m above sea level high mountain spur in a forest, 1450 meters south of the municipality of Malsch in the district of Karlsruhe in Baden-Württemberg.

Tower castle, presumably built by the Reginbodo family, counts in the Ufgau, Reginbodo (II.) called himself "Count of Malsch" from 1110. Later inhabited by vassals of the Ebersteiners or the Baden margraves ("Knight Reinhard von Neuenburg"). The castle and the village of Malsch came into the possession of the convent of Herrenalb in 1318 through purchase. Mentioned once more in 1431 (Margrave Jakob I.). After the castle was already a ruin, it was largely demolished from 1826 onwards to expand the church of St. Cyriak in Malsch. Today, remains of walls and ramparts can still be seen.
