Unterlind Castle

Unterlind Castle lay deep below Oberlind Castle, but still above the settlement on a hill separated from the mountainside by a gorge. In 1377, Count Meinhard of Görz enfeoffed Ulrich Kammerberger with the dwelling on Oberlind Fortress. This indicates that, in addition to Oberlind Castle, there was already an Unterlind Castle, as confirmed by an inscription on the chapel fresco with the year 1347. In 1429, the castle was held in fief by a family that called itself "von Lind" after the castle. Thus, Count Johann Meinhard of Görz enfeoffed Siegmund von Lind with the lordship in that year.

In the Peace of Pusarnitz in 1460, the Görz possessions passed to the Habsburgs. In 1461, Emperor Frederick III enfeoffed Jörg von Lind with the lordship. From the mid-15th century, the office and court of Lind were usually granted with the "Rottenstein Fortress". In 1513, Blasius Hölzl took over Rottenstein Castle and office, as well as the associated Lind office. Jakob von Lind (1613) no longer resided at Unterlind but at the nearby Raggnitz Castle and at Groppenstein in the Mölltal. Around this time, the castle was likely abandoned. Members of the Lind family are traceable until the 18th century.

In 1955, the castle chapel, or Mariahilf Chapel, built in 1347, was renovated, revealing frescoes, the Lindner coat of arms, and the year of construction. The ruin is now in private ownership.
