In the few sources that exist about this castle, two complexes are always mentioned: the fortified church of St. Gertruden and Ülbersberg Castle. The area around Guttaring is first mentioned in 977. When the castle was built is not known. In 1593 and 1688, the nobles of Staudach are mentioned in Ülbersberg.
All that remains of the castle is a straight wall section, approximately 15 meters long and 8 meters high, which is the valley side of a former building. On Markus Pernhard's drawing (1860), the entire south side with both corners is still preserved. Towards the mountain, behind the wall, lies an approximately rectangular flat area, which was likely the core area of the castle. A heavily eroded moat separates the castle from the mountain to the NW and W.
