Steinebach Castle
Steinebach Castle is the ruin of a lowland castle in the municipality of Steinebach an der Wied in the Westerwaldkreis in Rhineland-Palatinate.
The sparse remains of the castle in the Westerwald are located in a constantly damp streambed of the Wied in the immediate vicinity of the village of Steinebach.
The town of Hachenburg is a good five kilometers north, Herschbach is six kilometers further southwest. The Westerwald Lake District with the Dreifelder Weiher is only about 2.5 kilometers south of the village of Steinebach.

The most striking fragment of the castle complex is a stone archway, which probably dates from the 14th century and apparently represented the access gate to this lowland castle. Foundation walls of the other buildings are still present.
The ruins of the castle complex are freely accessible at all times.
Steinebach Castle was probably built as early as the 12th century as the seat of a local lower noble family, although this founding date is not historically documented.
However, the small castle complex was at least in later years in the possession of the local knights of Steinebach, who then pledged it to the Counts of Sayn and ultimately sold it.
The very small castle complex has never played even a remotely historical role.
Many residents of Steinebach bear the same as a surname and it is also generally widespread as such in the Westerwaldkreis.
